Spiti Valley isn’t just a destination, it’s an experience. High-altitude villages, snow-capped mountains, ancient monasteries, and roads that test your patience yet reward your soul. For me, Spiti became more than a trip — it was survival, adventure, and peace rolled into one. After watching YJHD movie, I always wanted to explore the north and go trekking. I always wanted, and I did experience that “Waha uss pahadon mai nasha sa tha” moment !!!!!
How I Reached Spiti From Ahmedabad
Flight Booking –
I booked my flight from Ahmedabad to Chandigarh because that’s the nearest and most budget-friendly airport to reach Spiti. I compared prices on Skyscanner, MakeMyTrip, and Ixigo. The earlier you book (2–3 months in advance), the cheaper you’ll get. My round trip cost me around ₹6,500.
Road Journey –
From Chandigarh, I booked a shared taxi till Shimla (₹700–₹1000). From Shimla, I joined a group cab towards Spiti. This was cheaper than booking a private car. Alternatively, you can also take a Volvo bus till Manali and then get a shared taxi to Kaza (Spiti’s main town).
Spiti ke raaste kathin hain,
Par har mod par ek naya nazara khilta hai,
Jaise zindagi sikha rahi ho —
Sundarta hamesha aasaan raahon pe nahi milti.
Pahadon ki khamoshi bahut kuch keh jaati hai,
Aur barf ki safedi dil ke saare rang dikha jaati hai.
Jo khud ko kho chuke hain shehron ke shor mai,
Unhe yahan aake khud se milne ka mauka milta hai.
Spiti sirf ek jagah nahi,
Ek ahsaas hai jo saath le jaate ho,
Aur jab wapas jaate ho,
Toh lagta hai zindagi ko ek naya matlab mil gaya ho.”

Where I Stayed (Budget Options)
Finding stays in Spiti can be tricky because internet is patchy and places fill up fast. I used Booking.com & Airbnb, but honestly, the cheapest way was calling homestays directly.
1- Kaza Homestay – ₹800 per night with meals. Super warm hosts.
2- Langza Village – Stayed in a mud house for ₹1000/night, unforgettable experience.
3- Chicham – Shared room at ₹700/night, simple but magical view.
Tip: Always carry some cash, because GPay/Paytm mostly doesn’t work here
Challenges I Faced (And What You Should Know)
1- Altitude Sickness – First 2 days were tough. Headache, breathlessness. My tip → carry Diamox tablets, drink a lot of water, and avoid running around.
2- No Network Zone – Don’t expect 4G. JIO works in some areas, but I had to survive without Insta for days.
3- Food & Warmth – Nights are freezing. Carry thermals, socks, and energy bars. Food is basic – Maggi, momos, dal-rice. Don’t expect 5-star meals.
4- Trekking Prep – Trekking at high altitude is not easy. Carry sturdy trekking shoes, sunscreen (SPF 50+), lip balm, sunglasses, and a refillable water bottle
Packing List (Things I Carried & You Should Too)
1- Heavy jacket + thermals (temperature can drop below 0°C)
2- Trekking shoes + extra socks
3- Medicines (Diamox, paracetamol, ORS)
4- Sunscreen + moisturizer (dry weather cracks skin)
5- Torch & power bank (power cuts are common)
6- Instant snacks (protein bars, dry fruits)
Best Time to Go (Budget-Friendly)
May–June: Roads just open, fewer tourists, cheaper stays.
September–October: Beautiful autumn vibes, again less crowd, reasonable prices.
Avoid July–August (landslides, rains)
My Personal Tip
I went with the mindset of a “chill trip” but Spiti will test you. Don’t overpack, don’t expect luxury, and don’t panic when there’s no network. Instead, enjoy the silence, stars, and the raw beauty of mountains.
Cost Breakdown (Approx Per Person for 10 Days)

Final Words
If you want a raw, unfiltered Himalayan experience, Spiti is your place. It’s not about comfort — it’s about living simply, closer to nature. For me, this trip wasn’t just about travel, it was about patience, strength, and learning to live with less.
